The Exam Setup module establishes the foundation for all examination activities. This includes defining exam types, setting up grade systems, configuring assessment rules, and defining passing criteria.

Accessing Exam Setup

• Log in as Administrator

Navigate to Examinations → Exam Setup

View available setup options

Grade Systems

Creating a Grade System

A grade system defines how marks are converted to letter grades and GPA.

Click Grade Systems → Add Grade System

Enter:

- Name - e.g., "CBSE Grading", "Percentage" - Description - Optional details

Add grade boundaries:

Grade	From (%)	To (%)	GPA/Points
-------	----------	--------	------------
A+	90	100	4.0
A	80	89	3.6
B+	70	79	3.2
B	60	69	2.8
C	50	59	2.4
D	40	49	2.0
F	0	39	0.0

• Set passing percentage (typically 35% or 40%)

Save the grade system

Assigning Grade Systems

Go to Settings → Exam Settings

• Select default grade system for each class

Exam Types

Define different categories of exams:

Go to Exam Types

Click Add Exam Type

Enter:

- Name - e.g., "Mid-Term", "Final", "Unit Test" - Code - Short code - Description - Weightage - Contribution to final grade (%)

Common Exam Types

Unit Test - Monthly short exam

Mid-Term - Semester assessment

Final Exam - End of year exam

Practical - Lab/field assessment

Project - Assignment-based evaluation

Quiz - Quick assessment

Assessment Components

Define what contributes to the final grade:

Go to Assessment Components

Click Add Component

Enter:

- Name - e.g., "Theory", "Practical", "Homework" - Type - Exam, Assignment, Project, etc. - Weightage - % of total marks - Passing Marks - Minimum to pass

Save

Example for a class:

• Theory: 70%

• Practical: 20%

Homework/Assignment: 10%

Exam Groups

Group multiple exams together:

Go to Exam Groups

Click Add Exam Group

Enter:

- Name - e.g., "Class 10 Annual Exams 2024" - Academic Year - Start Date - End Date

• Add exams to this group

Subject Setup for Exams

Configure exam settings per subject:

Go to Subject Assessment

• Select class and subject

Configure:

- Exam types to include - Pass marks for each - Total marks

Seating Plan Templates

Create templates for exam seating:

Go to Seating Templates

Click Add Template

Enter:

- Template Name - Room Capacity - Rows and Columns

Save for use during exam scheduling

Exam Rules and Policies

Configure global exam policies:

Go to Settings → Exam Settings

Configure:

- Grace Marks - Allow grace marks? - Revaluation - Enable revaluation process? - Reappear - Allow reappear exams? - Marks Entry Deadline - When teachers must enter marks - Publish Results - When students can view results

Question Bank Categories

Organize questions for exams:

Go to Question Bank → Categories

Add categories:

- By subject chapter - By topic - By difficulty level

Online Exam Settings

If using online exams:

Go to Online Exam Settings

Configure:

- Time limit per exam - Attempt allowed - Number of tries - Randomize questions - Shuffle order - Show results - Immediate or after deadline - Proctoring - Enable proctoring settings

Copying Exam Configuration

Reuse exam setup from previous year:

Go to Copy Exam Setup

• Select source academic year

• Select target academic year

Choose what to copy:

- Grade systems - Exam types - Assessment components

Troubleshooting

Problem: Grade not showing for student

Solution: Verify grade system assigned to student's class

Problem: Cannot add exam type

Solution: Check if name already exists; use unique names

Problem: Weightage not adding to 100%

Solution: Adjust component weights; must equal 100%
